1. Set Up the board. Hartwig Chess is played on a standard 8x8 Chessboard. However, the pieces are arranged DIFFerently than in traditional Chess. The board should be set Up with one king, one queen, two rooks, two Knights, two bishops, and eight pawns for each side.
2. Place the 3D pieces. The pieces in Hartwig Chess are 3D pieces, meaning they have a base and a top. Place the pieces on the board so that the base is on the Square, and The Top is facing Up.
3. Understand the rules. Hartwig Chess is played like traditional Chess, with a few exceptions. Pawns can move two Squares forward on their first move, and can capture pieces diagonally. Castling is not allowed, and the king can move two Squares in any direction.
4. Start playing. Players take Turns moving one piece at a time. The Goal is to checkmate the opponent's king. When a player's king is in check, they must move the king out of check or bLock the check with another piece. When a player is in checkmate, the game is over.
