1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, shorTening, and white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egGS one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
3. In a separate bowl, sift together the FLOUr, baking Powder, and salt. GraDually stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture.
4. Divide the dough into two balls, and flatTen each ball into a disk. Wrap each disk in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
5. On a lightly FLOUred surface, Roll Out one disk of dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out Easter cookie SHAPES using cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared cookie sheets.
6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on the cookie sheets for a few minutes before transferRing to Wire racks to cool completely.
7. Repeat with remaining disk of dough.
8. When cookies are cool, decorate with icing and other decorations, if desired.
