1. Gather the necessary equipment. You will need a pool table, a set of sixteen billiard balls (including one cue ball), two cue sticks, and chalk.
2. Rack the balls. Place the cue ball in the center of the rack, then arrange the other fifteen balls in a triAngle formation with the 8 ball in the center.
3. Determine who will break. This is typically done by flipPing a coin or playing rock-Paper-scissors.
4. Break the rack. The player who is breaking should hit the cue ball with a cue stick, sending the balls in DIFFerent directions.
5. Take Turns. The player who broke the rack will continue to take Shots until he/she misses or commits a foul. If the player makes a ball, he/she will continue to shoot until a miss or foul occurs.
6. Sink the 8 ball. The player who pockets the 8 ball first wins the game. If the 8 ball is pocketed before all of the other balls are pocketed, the game is over.
7. Call all Shots. The player must call all Shots, including the pocket in which the ball will be sunk. If the player fails to call the Shot, the ball is spotted and the opponent gets to take the next Shot.
8. Follow the rules. If the player commits a foul, the opponent will get to take the next Shot. Common fouls include scratching the cue ball, pocketing the cue ball, and pocketing the 8 ball before all other balls are pocketed.
